Alfa Laval Sees "Steady Growth" for Scrubber Demand
Alfa Laval Wednesday said throughout 2014 it saw steady growth for its PureSOx scrubber exhaust cleaning systems which are now installed on 65 vessels.
"We are both pleased and proud to have received orders for 70 PureSOx systems," said René Diks, manager of marketing and sales for the company's scrubbers.
Two DFDS Seaways ships with the PureSOx systems installed, the DFDS Petunia and Primula Seaways, were also both recently given class approval by Lloyd's Register, which is significant given that standards set during the scrubber approval process vary among class societies, according the company.
"It shows that Alfa Laval has not only the technology, but also the knowledge in place to complete the class approval process," Diks said.
The company said that it would be continuing to develop its PureSOx system, which is already on its second iteration.
The coming year will see Alfa Laval preparing for the launch of an inline version of the scrubber system.
"The countdown is at an end," said Diks in light of sulfur regulations that were phased in at the beginning of the year.
"For those who want to retain the economy of heavy fuel oil, there is no doubt that the time to invest is now."
Alfa Laval launched its PureSOx 2.0 system in September of last year.
