Deltamarin to Design Fuel-Efficient Tankers
Finnish naval engineering company Deltamarin Ltd. says it has been hired to design five fuel-efficient 38,000 deadweight tonne (dwt) stainless steel chemical tankers for Stolt Nielsen Ship Finance Ltd.
The parcel tankers, to be built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd. in China, offer a relatively shallow draft when fully loaded, along with hull form and propulsion arrangement designs developed from Deltamarin's B.Delta standard bunk carrier design.
Each ship will be 185 meters long with a beam of 32.26 meters and have 43 stainless steel tanks, for a total volume of 44,000 cubic meters.
The ships will meet Marpol Annex I and Annex II cargo requirements and will have IMO I, II and III capabilities.
"The design was developed in a close cooperation with Stolt Tankers and Hudong-Zhonghua to meet the set high targets of fuel efficiency, cargo capacity and operational flexibility," said Markku Kanerva, director of sales at Deltamarin.
"The preliminary model tests already confirmed the performance and further optimisation will be carried out with the final propulsion arrangement.
"Development of structural configuration to meet the Common Structural Rules and to optimise the amount of stainless steel has been a demanding task."
Stoltz said in November that the five tankers will be delivered starting in December 2015, replacing tankers scheduled for recycling.
