The End of Legacy Yahoo Messenger: A Reminder of What We Should be Doing.
Yahoo today will end support for its "legacy" Messenger platform. The bunker industry has told Ship & Bunker it is switching to Skype, while some are also choosing to support ICE Messenger - the latter being a popular choice for oil traders and others outside of the bunker industry.
While many players who have spoken to Ship & Bunker said they would be happy to accommodate whatever platform their customers chose to use, Monjasa has also used this juncture as a reminder not to lose sight of best practice.
"Rather than focusing on extending communication through these very popular messenger tools, we urge our colleagues at Monjasa to use the telephone, and actually have an 'old fashioned dialogue' with our business partners," Thorstein Andreasen, Communications Manager at Monjasa told Ship & Bunker.
"Shipping is all about relations and listening to our business partners' needs and explain how our services can help cover these. To us, this is by far the most workable and personal channel for daily communication, apart from meeting face to face in actual business meetings, of course.
"Having said this, we are perfectly aware of the market communication trends and we are ready and well equipped to meet our clients and suppliers on their preferred digital platforms. With Yahoo Messenger shutting down, we are increasingly turning our attention towards Skype, which we have already been using for a few years, as well as the ICE Messenger platform."
