Wallenius Lines Orders Fuel-Saving Car Carriers
Wallenius Lines, a 50 percent owner of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) says it has declared an option for two fuel-efficient Post Panamax vessels from China's Tianjin Xingang Shipyard.
The ships, add-ons to two vessels ordered in June 2013, will be delivered in Q2 and Q4 2016.
The ships will each have a carrying capacity of 8,000 cars.
"These Post Panamax vessels are designed to meet customer demands for capacity as well quality and efficiency in both handling and operation," says COO Fridtjof Naess.
"We continue on our quest to continuously reduce our environmental impact, and this generation of vessels will feature optimized hull design and a number of energy saving solutions to ensure efficient operation."
The company's other 50 percent owner, Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA, previously ordered four Post Panamax vessels from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.
Deltamarin Ltd. said in July that it was working with Tianjin Xingang Shipyard on the designs for the first two ships in the series as part of the shipbuilder's effort to extend its expertise into more sophisticated ship types.
