The International Maritime Organization's (IMO's) Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) project today said that the Future-Ready Shipping 2017 Conference – jointly organised by IMO and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) – will discuss the gap between sustainable technology for shipping and its uptake.

"While great technological advances have been made towards achieving sustainable shipping, a gap remains between such advances and their widespread uptake," said GloMEEP.

"Technology-transfer and deployment need to be fast-tracked to support the effective implementation of requirements for ships' energy efficiency under MARPOL Annex VI, and to further the progress already made by IMO in reducing harmful emissions from ships."

The conference, which is structured into four main sessions, aims to identify priority areas for international action on maritime technology cooperation and capacity building, as well as to encourage an exchange of best practices and ideas in technology transfer.

The event will be held from September 25-26, 2017 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in Singapore.
