Blueflow Energy Management AB (Blueflow) says it has equipped Viking Line's entire fleet, including the liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fuelled Viking Grace, with the Blueflow Energy Management System for compliance with the European Union (EU) Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) regulation.

Blueflow says the system will enable Viking Line to quickly bring together large amounts of data into annual MRV reports for individual vessels, and give visual and vital feedback on fleet energy efficiency and carbon emissions.

"Blueflow is being used by Viking Line to detect deviations or under-optimized routines in real time and then suggesting alternatives (optimized from Blueflows historical data)," said Ulf Hagström, SVP Marine Operations at Viking Line.

"We see the benefit that the officers onboard the ships immediately can see the difference in energy consumptions trying out different operating methods. Furthermore, Blueflow Fuel reporting system gives us full control of the ship´s fuel and energy consumption. It will also minimise the effort needed to comply with the upcoming MRV-legislation."

In August, Ship & Bunker reported that the Viking Line Group (Viking Line), in its financial results for the 2017 H1 period, said the company saw a 23.3 percent year on year increase in bunker expenses, totalling €23.2 million ($27.24 million), up from €18.8 million ($22.07 million) during 2016 H1.
