Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. KG. (Oldendorff) has announced that it has revived an order for two 36,000 tdw Handysize newbuildings with a bunker-saving FESDEC-36k eco type design.

The new vessels feature WinGD main engines, MAN-B&W auxiliary engines, and "Mewis" fuel saving ducts.

The original contracts, which the company had concluded in June 2012 with SAMJIN Shipbuilding Ind. Co Ltd (SSI), was for four of the vessels.

"The yard was known for its good workmanship, but had to go through a financial restructuring due to the problems of its Korean parent," explained Oldendorff.

"We cancelled all four ships in 2014 and 2015 after excessive delays and received back our downpayments. Roughly 50 percent of the building blocks were completed at that time and well-protected."

Oldendorff says it signed new contracts for two of the original hull numbers on August 2, with deliveries slated for autumn of  2018 and January 2019.

"We know, that the yard is again building excellent quality vessels, last year we observed the quality and enjoyed a good working relationship with the yard, when we bought 58,000 tdw Frederike Oldendorff as a resale from the yard," said Oldendorff.

In April, Oldendorff announced that it had signed an agreement with a BMT Group subsidiary, BMT SMART (BMT), which would see the two companies work together to implement bunker-saving fleet performance management technology onboard Oldendorff vessels.
