The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce says the China Merchants Port Holdings Company (CMPort) is set to detail its "Road Map for the Development of the Hambantota Port" at a seminar on September 22.

During the event, which has been organised under the title of "South Asia's Emerging Gateway City," Hang Tian, Deputy General Manager of CMPort will present the company's plan for the port.

Mangala P.B. Yapa, Managing Director of the Agency for Development Strategies, and Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority, will then offer presentations titled "Hambantota Logistics and Industrial Zone - Vision for the Future" and "Hambantota Port: Development Strategy," respectively.

"Development of the Hambantota Port, as well as the new proposed Logistics and Industrial Zone, would have business opportunities for a range of sectors and provide new prospects for FDI – particularly through joint ventures between foreign and Sri Lankan firms," said the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

The detailed plan is set to expand on an agreement signed by the Sri Lankan government and CMPort, which outlines the future management of the Hambantota Port.
