Ulstein Group ASA (Ulstein) today announced that a steel cutting ceremony was held on Friday at the hull yard Crist, Poland for Color Line AS' (Color Line's) new plug-in hybrid ferry.

As Ship & Bunker reported at the time, Ulstein signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Color Line in January for the construction of what it says will be the world's largest hybrid vessel.

The vessel, which was designed by Fosen Yard (Fosen), is set to serve on a Sandefjord-Strömstad route.

Ulstein notes that the ferry - slated for completion in 2019 - will turn to battery power upon arrival to the fjord of Sandefjord, minimising noise and eliminating emissions of NOx, SOx, and climate gases.
