Stena RoRo today announced that it has signed a contract to have the the hulls of four newbuild RoPax ferries coated with paint that incorporates the bunker-saving bio-repellent antifouling ingredient Selektope.

"We are honoured that a pioneer of sustainability in commercial shipping such as Stena RoRo has chosen a Selektope-containing hull coating product for its newbuild program," said Philip Chaabane, CEO at I-Tech AB (I-Tech).

"Their investment in a premium antifouling product that contains Selektope will deliver strong antifouling performance with the additional benefit that their high-activity vessels will have the best protection from barnacle invasion."

The newbuild Stena RoPax ferries, which are being built at the AVIC yard in Weihai, China, are slated for delivery in 2019 and 2020.

Marine coating products containing Selektope are said to have been applied to over 150 vessels to date, including tankers, container ships, and LNG carriers.
