Russian marine fuel supplier Gazpromneft Marine Bunker (GMB) has reported a 32 percent year-on-year rise in sales volumes for the January to September period of this year.

Sales of bunkers hit 3.1 million tonnes for the period, compared to total sales of 3.2 million tonnes for the whole of 2013.

Included in 2014's year-to-date figures were direct-to-vessel sales of 2.5 million tonnes, representing a 48 percent year-on-year jump in on board bunker sales.

On board sales in Far East ports almost doubled to 757,000 tonnes.

The results are said to be derived from a combination of current client cooperation, attraction of new clients and increased calls at ports where GMB has a presence.

“A broad geographical range, ownership of our own bunkering fleet and various terminal assets, high service standards, and direct contracts with the most significant consumers of marine fuels — it’s precisely these advantages that mean our company can be confident of maintaining its leadership of the Russian market," commented Gazpromneft Marine Bunker CEO Andrey Vasiliev.

Russian market specialist IAA PortNews reported GMB to have that largest slice in Russia's bunker market, with a share of 18.6 percent.

Recently, Lukoil said it was expecting changes to Russia's bunker market in 2015, warning shippers to expect "unpleasant surprises."
