Skangas to Supply LNG Bunkers to Statoil PSVs on Norwegian West Coast
Finland's Skangas AS (Skangas) says it has signed an agreement with Norway's Statoil ASA (Statoil) for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkers to their platform supply vessels (PSVs), delivered by ship to several bases along the Norwegian west coast.
Under the agreement, which is valid from April 1, 2017 to the end of 2020 with the option for an additional two years, Skangas will also deliver LNG to Statoil’s tugs at Kårstø.
The agreement is noted to have been a result of a thorough tendering process involving several LNG suppliers active within the Norwegian market.
"We see this agreement as a recognition of our daily work and a confirmation of a good relationship with Statoil," said Tor Morten Osmundsen, CEO of Skangas.
"It is important to have customers that emphasise the necessity of more sustainable operations enabling the use of a more environmentally friendly energy. We are depending on front runners to develop the market for LNG and further for liquefied biogas (LBG)."
Skangas says LNG supplied under the deal will come from the LNG plant in Risavika, and will be delivered to the bases along the Norwegian coast by Skangas' new LNG feeder and bunker ship, the 5800 m3 Coralius.
"By using LNG for supply vessels Skangas' customer is experiencing considerably less emission than when using other fossil fuels. Skangas is helping their customer to reach their goals of being the most carbon effective company," said Skangas.
Earlier this month, AS Tallink Grupp (Tallink) announced that it has signed contracts with Skangas and Estonia's AS Eesti Gaas (Eesti Gaas) for the supply of LNG to the ferry operator's new LNG-powered vessel, Megastar.
