Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. (Aegean) has halted bunkering operations in Algeciras, Spain a few weeks ago, but notes that it is still active within the market, the supplier has told Platts.

"We are operating out of Gibraltar and Tangier Med but discontinued Algeciras operations for commercial reasons," said Nick Hondos, general manager for Aegean Bunkering Services.

"The Gibraltar/Algeciras market is important to us and we remain an active player," added Hondos.

The development means that, following the exit of Bomin from the Gibraltar market last yearPeninsula Petroleum Limited is the only remaining player supplying on both sides of the bay, in Gibraltar and Algeciras' waters.

In March, Ship & Bunker reported that Aegean had launched a new bunkering operation in Algoa Bay, near the ports of Port Elizabeth and Coega, South Africa.
