Canada's British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. (BC Ferries) has announced that Salish Raven, the company's third of three newbuild dual fuel ferries featuring liquefied natural gas (LNG)-propulsion, departed from Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. (Remontowa Shipbuilding) in Gdansk, Poland on April 28, 2017.

The transatlantic voyage is expected to take 45 to 55 days, depending on weather, and will include stops for bunkering in Santa Cruz, Canary Islands, and Panama City, Panama.

"This is a major milestone in our newbuild program as Salish Raven, the final vessel in this series, is now making its way to British Columbia," said Mark Collins, BC Ferries’ President and CEO.

"With these new vessels, we continue to move towards standardisation of our fleet, which offers interoperability and lower crew training and maintenance costs, and also enhances safety."

The Salish Raven is set to be put into service in the Southern Gulf Islands in the fall.

Sister vessels, Salish Orca and Salish Eagle will be introduced into service next month on the Powell River to Comox route and on the Tsawwassen to Southern Gulf Islands route in late June, respectively.
