A contractor working on an oil spill off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago says it may take up to three months to clean up, the Trinidad & Tobago Guardian reports.

Brian Gove, a technical adviser from Oil Spill Response Ltd. in the U.S., toured clean-up operations at point Saube, La Brea, with Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine.

"This one is a little bit challenging in that we do not have access," Gove said.

"We only have the one access road and it's quite a bit of oil for up to a two-mile stretch."
Gove said one positive aspect of the spill is a current that is pushing the oil to a "natural collection point."

Petrotrin, the owner of the storage facilities that the oil spilled from, has previously estimated that cleanup would take at least a week, while Gove said it would take at least two weeks for heavy cleaning and three months for lighter cleanup work.

Ramnarine said a preliminary report has found that the oil spilled is Bunker C.

Officials have said that sabotage is suspected in the December 19 spill.
