Chemoil Was Top U.S. Fuel Oil Importer in February
Chemoil Energy Ltd (Chemoil) imported more residual fuel oil into the U.S. than any other supplier in February, bringing in more than 1.9 million barrels, about a quarter of the nation's imports, Platts reports based on U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data.
Chemoil was followed by Petrobras, Vitol, ExxonMobil, and Phillips 66.
Canada provided the largest portion of the imports, at 29 percent, followed by Mexico and Angola.
Chemoil announced the expansion of its U.S. East Coast operations in February, saying it was leasing 1.35 million barrels of capacity at bunker terminals in Florida.
Demand for fuel oil in the U.S. has declined significantly as power plants have moved away from heavy fuel oil (HFO) and toward natural gas and other products, and use of the fuel in shipping is also falling as ship operators adjust to new environmental rules.
