Local authorities are monitoring for signs of a possible bunker spill and other pollution after the chemical tanker Chemroad Journey ran aground in South China Sea 28 nautical miles south of Phu Quy island in Vietnam, Maritime Herlad reports.

At the time of the grounding, the vessel is said to have been carrying 170 tonnes of fuel oil and 113 tonnes of diesel oil, as well as 30,000 tonnes of industrial chemicals, including Butyraldehyde, Ethylene Glycol, Ethyl hexanol, and Ethanol Amine.

The vessel is said to have sustained some breaches and flooding as a result of the grounding, although no pollution has so far been reported.

The vessel's salvage is reported to have been contracted and is expected to be underway by Wednesday, with rough weather noted to be currently impacting efforts.

Data from VesselsValue indicates the 33,500 DWT Chemroad Journey is controlled by Iino Marine Service Co., Ltd.
