Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG) today announced that it has completed its first small scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) gas-up/cool-down and reload at its Jurong Island Terminal using the Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell) 6,500m3 newbuild LNG bunker vessel, Cardissa.

"The successful completion of our first small scale LNG reload operation is significant as it demonstrates the SLNG Terminal's ability to play the role of LNG supply hub for the region," said John Ng, CEO of SLNG.

"The Terminal is able to break LNG cargoes into smaller parcels and facilitate deliveries of small volumes of LNG to other terminals in the region, or as bunker fuel to ships in our port."

The operation was conducted at the SLNG Terminal's Secondary Jetty, which is noted to have been originally designed for LNG vessels from 60,000m3 to 265,000m3 in size.

"We are already looking ahead to further enhance our capabilities in this area, by exploring possible modifications to our Secondary Jetty to accommodate LNG vessels as small as 2,000m3. This is expected to come onstream in 2019," said Ng.

As Ship & Bunker reported in April, marking another step toward the development of LNG bunkering at the port, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced that, along with SLNG, it had launched Singapore's first LNG truck loading facility during a ceremony held at the SLNG Terminal.
