Singapore Posts 22% Slide in 500 cSt Sales, But Remains On Track for a Record Year of Overall Bunker Volumes
Singapore remains on track for a record year of bunker sales after the latest preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) showed the world's biggest bunkering port by volume posted another strong sales month in October, although the port did witness an unusually high slide in 500 cSt sales.
October 2015's total for all products was 3,637,000 metric tonnes (mt), a slight improvement over the 3,593,600 mt sold in October 2014, and a decline of 5.48 percent month-on-month.
Sales of the port's most popular grade, IFO380, slipped back only 2 percent to 2,849,100 mt, but the port recorded a dramatic 21.7 percent slide in 500 cSt sales, its second most popular product, to 576,800 mt.
This put the product's percentage of overall sales for the month at 15.9 percent, the lowest since January 2013, and perhaps even more notable given that the last time that ratio was below 18 percent was in February 2014.
The result puts the year-to-date total for all products at a record 37,120,500 mt for the first 10 months of the year, beating the previous highest 10-month total of 35,784,000 set in 2012.
It is also higher than the 35,734,300 mt recorded for the 10 month period in 2011, the year Singapore set its current record annual total of 43,153,800 mt.
