Singapore Carrier's New Eco-Vessel Generates 6 Tonnes Per Day of Bunker Savings
Singapore's Pioneer Marine Inc. has accepted delivery of a new handysize eco-vessel that claims to reduce fuel consumption by six tonnes per day compared to non-eco-vessels, the company announced this week.
The 8,464 DWT M.V. Falcon Bay is also said to be equipped with a strengthened hull, an ABB Octopus system for fuel consumption optimization, and mass flow meters.
Once operational, the vessels will begin a one-year charter on a floating rate based on the Baltic Handy index plus a premium, with the option to extend the charter another year.
The ship was constructed by Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
The company also announced early this year that it would be installing ABB's fuel optimization systems aboard another 12 Handymax dry bulkers that it had ordered from Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding.
