Three men last week were arrested in Singapore on suspicion of misappropriating S$57,000 ($43,700) worth of marine gasoil (MGO), Channel NewsAsia reports.

The three were arrested after Singapore's Police Coast Guard received information on Thursday that fuel had gone missing from a Singapore-registered vessel.

Preliminary investigations are said to have shown 67 tonnes of MGO were missing.

RMB50,000 ($8,100) in cash, believed to be connected to the case, was also confiscated.

The men are understood to have been the ship's Superintendent, Chief Engineer and Third Engineer and were said to be awaiting charges in court on Saturday.

If the men are found guilty of criminal breach of trust as a servant they could be jailed for 15 years and fined.

Earlier this year, a ship's engineer was jailed for 18 months after stealing 200 tonnes of fuel from his vessel.
