"Significant Improvements" in Singapore Oil Spills
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reported "significant improvements" in the port city's waters Wednesday after two collisions resulted in spills last week.
The MPA says only minor patches of oil remain around the Southern Islands and at Pulau Seringat shoreline, and response personnel are using oil booms and skimmers to remove them.
The MPA is continuing to monitor the situation, work with relevant agencies on the clean-up efforts, and investigate the accidents.
Vessel traffic and port operations are not affected by the situation.
The public is being advised to stay away from parts of Kusu and St. John's Islands beaches, where the National Environment Agency (NEA) has closed 200 metres of beach to allow for cleanup, Channel News Asia reports.
The spills occurred last Wednesday and Thursday when ships collided in separate incidents.
