Japan's January Bonded Bunker Sales Swell 8.7% Month on Month
Data from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on Tuesday showed the country's bonded fuel sales reached 2.519 million barrels during the month of January, Platts reports.
The rise represented an 8.7 percent increase from December, and marking a 36 percent rise year on year.
Bonded marine diesel oil sales in Japan are said to have begun 2016 more relaxed, with January sales falling 16.9 percent from December to 86,324 barrels, although still representing a significant rise of 147.1 percent year on year.
It is reported that Japan did not import any bonded bunker fuel oil during the month of January.
Bonded bunker fuel is exempt from import tax in Japan, and is sold to ships on international routes.
Last week, Ship & Bunker reported that minimal impact was expected to be seen in Japan's bunker market as a result of bunker fuel shipments from Cosmo Oil's Sakaide oil terminal in western Japan being suspended March 5, 2016, which was said to be part of a five-day maintenance programme.
