Glencore plc (Glencore) Thursday announced that its subsidiary Chemoil Energy Limited (Chemoil) is to expand its physical supply operations to Australia's Port of Brisbane.

As part of the move, the supplier will deploy the bunker barge Valiant III on June 23, 2016, which it says is capable of delivering HFO and MGO.

Barging operations will be undertaken by United Maritime Australia.

For storage, a "long-term" agreement has been signed with GrainCorp.

"The addition of the Port of Brisbane will further strengthen Chemoil's supply network throughout Australasia and is another important strategic step for us as we expand our offering to ship owners, cruise lines, brokers, and agents," said Brett Crawford, Manager of Glencore Oil business in Australia.

This will be the second new Australian supply operation for Chemoil this year, following the introduction of new operations from Port Kembla in April.

"Our Chemoil business began operations in a number of ports in New South Wales in April and things are going well so far," said Crawford.

"We see a lot of potential in the east coast marine fuels market and the combination of our global network and marketing expertise allows us to efficiently and competitively source, ship, store, blend and deliver a broad range of fuels for our customers.”

In March Ship & Bunker reported that Chemoil was also looking to deploy a new barge to support its operations and offer bunkering via barge in Newcastle, Port Botany, and Eden.
