Greek shipping company Goldenport Holdings Inc. (Goldenport) says it has sold a containership for $6 million, increasing its liquidity and reducing the average age of its fleet.

The sale, to Nevis-based Gunehr Shipping Limited, will result in a book loss of $3.9 million to Goldenport, based on the ship's book value, after brokerage commission.

"Goldenport continues to take advantage of the current strong scrap prices and has sold one of its oldest vessels in order to reduce the average age of its fleet and enhance operating and cash flow generating efficiency," the company said.

"The sale proceeds will be applied towards the repayment of US$4.55 million of debt secured against the vessel and increasing the level of corporate liquidity."

The containership, MSC Anafi, was built in 1994 and has a capacity of 2,420 twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEU), according to the company's website.

Including the Anafi, Goldenport has 10 containerships and nine bulk carriers.
