An upgrade project at the Falmouth Petroleum Limited (FPL) oil terminal in the UK's Port of Falmouth will result in one of the most modern, environmentally friendly bunkering terminals in the country, terminal operations director Paul Denmead told local newspaper the Falmouth Packet.

"FPL is committed to long-term investment in the local infrastructure," Denmead said.

The multi-million pound project includes the installation of new pipelines, a bund wall, and a waste processing unit.

FPL, a subsidiary of World Fuel Services, has been working on the improvements over the past year, and plans include building a new section of breakwater to protect the docks, inner harbor, and Pendennis Shipyard complex from wind and sea conditions.

FPL has had competition at the port since late last year, when Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. [NYSE: ANW] (Aegean) set up operations there.
