The Administration of Seaports of Primorsky Territory and Eastern Arctic says bunker sales at the Russian Port of Vladivostok and its offshore terminals during the January to May 2017 period totalled 270,300 tonnes, a 60 percent year-on-year increase, up from 169,900 tonnes during the same period of 2016, IAA PortNews reports.

The number of bunkering operations at Vladivostok and its offshore terminals increased from 1,242 to 1,305 during the period.

59,500 tonnes of the total sales volume during the period is reported to have been sold at the offshore terminals, while with the rest was sold at the port.

Sales of heavy fuel oil during the period amounted to approximately 218,600 tonnes.

Despite the increase in sales, volumes are still a fraction of what they were as recently as 2015, when bunker sales for the five month January to May period totalled 460,000 tonnes.

As Ship & Bunker reported last year, the sharp decline in Russia's Far East market as a whole was said to be due to changes in to the way Russian authorities applied tax to bunker sales.
