DNV GL today announced that Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. (Yang Ming), further boosting its bunker-saving efforts, will implement DNV GL's performance management solution ECO Insight.

"We are always active in finding solutions that can save energy and improve our fleet's performance. After working closely with the team we've seen that ECO Insight is a comprehensive and professional solution for fleet performance management," said James Jeng, Vice President of Yang Ming's Marine Department.

"It is also a good opportunity for us to get ready for EU MRV and upcoming IMO DCS reporting, as the solution will reduce our crew's reporting workload considerably, while providing our superintendents a platform that is better structured and more convenient."

Yang Ming, which operates a fleet of 98 vessels - representing six million DWT and an operating capacity of 590,000 TEU - will use ECO Insight performance management onshore, with Navigator Insight voyage reporting onboard its vessels.

"We have undertaken a lot of testing together with Yang Ming to make sure that they are happy with the implementation of the ECO Insight solution, ensuring that it integrates the different solutions they are using, and demonstrating how they can improve fleet performance and reduce reporting workload on their crews," said Ivan Tam, DNV GL Business Development Leader.

"The results convinced the performance team from Yang Ming and we are very much looking forward to working with them as they carry on using the system."

In May, DNV GL announced that, using high-fidelity computer fluid dynamics (CFD) and parametric formal optimisation, the classification society would offer ship owners the option of incorporating a bunker-saving asymmetric stern into their new vessels through its ECO Lines hull optimisation service.
