Genoil Inc. (Genoil) has announced that, as part of the company's efforts in meeting growing interest in its desulfurization technology, Dr. Victor Solovyev, a catalyst expert, has been hired as Project Manager for Genoil's engineering team.

"Dr. Solovyev's appointment to Genoil's engineering team comes at a time of real growth and opportunity for the company," said Genoil.

"This is in line with global demand for cleaner energy and low sulphur products, with a particular focus on the marine market, when the global sulphur cap is implemented in 2020 requiring all commercial vessels to burn fuels with a sulfur content of less than 0.5 percent."

Recently, Bruce Abbott, COO at Genoil told Ship & Bunker that the company is in advanced discussions with both physical bunker suppliers and shipowners over the use of its desulfurization technology to create 2020 compliant bunkers.

"As the 2020 global sulphur cap looms, the level of interest in Genoil's Hydroconversion Unit has risen markedly," said Abbott amid Solovyev's appointment.

"As an accomplished engineer, Dr. Solovyev brings a great depth of knowledge and experience in catalyst design that is critical to the continued development and implementation of our GHU technology. His expertise further strengthens our engineering team and provides real strategic value for Genoil, as we deliver against our growth plans."

As Ship & Bunker has reported, Genoil says it intends to license the GHU to customers worldwide, to produce compliant bunkers anywhere in the world, and is in advanced discussions with ship owners, key port terminal operators, and physical suppliers who may, as a sole party or as part of a consortium, establish a GHU for their own use.
