Hellenic Lloyd's S.A. (Hellenic Lloyd's) today said that a "ground-breaking" pilot project to develop shore power technology at Greece's Killini Port was discussed at an event last Thursday.

Organised by the Electrification in the Eastern Mediterranean (Elemed) project and the Killini Port Authority, the event brought together public officials, representatives from the local community, and stakeholders from social and institutional sectors.

"The 'why Killini' question for the establishment of the first pilot cold-ironing installation in Eastern Mediterranean, was the core of the event, highlighting the technical feasibility of the port but mainly Municipality's vision and will to offer a more sustainable and greener future for Killini society," explained Hellenic Lloyd's.

Discussion at the event is noted to have placed specific emphasis on the environmental, social, and economic benefits aimed for through the implementation of electrification technologies.

Attendees were also given the opportunity for a guided tour to Killini Port where the pilot cold-ironing infrastructure is set to be installed.
