Emulsion bunker firm Quadrise Fuels International plc (Quadrise) today welcomed the decision of the International Maritime Organization's Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) for a 0.5 percent global sulfur cap on marine fuel to be implemented from 2020.

"We welcome the IMO's new sulfur cap for 2020 as it presents a real opportunity for Quadrise - the increased demand for distillates from 2020 will lower the cost of MSAR fuel and increase the demand for exhaust scrubbers on vessels," said Mike Kirk, Executive Chairman for Quadrise Fuels.

"In combination we believe that this is the most economic and environmentally beneficial way for industry stakeholders to meet the new IMO regulations."

Earlier this month, Quadrise hailed a year of "substantial progression" for its emulsion fuel bunkers, noting that it is taking the last steps before commercial operations begin next year 2017.
