Hempel A/S (Hempel) today announced the launch of two new bunker-saving antifouling coatings, Globic 9500M and Globic 9500S.

The coatings are said to offer users a potential 2.5 percent reduction in speed loss, translating to "significant" fuel savings, lower CO2 emissions, and improved operational efficiency.

"Globic 9500M (M for maintenance) is designed to protect against slime as well as soft and hard fouling in all conditions. Globic 9500S (S for static) is designed to protect against hard-fouling even during extended outfitting periods," said Henrik Dyrholm, Global Product Manager at Hempel.

"Together these two coatings deliver unparalleled anti-fouling protection offering our customers improved operational efficiency, flexibility and a high return on investment."

Having delivered over 25 million litres within the Globic range worldwide since its launch in 2005, Hempel says the new coating series is the "next step in high performance antifouling protection."

Microfibres incorporated into Globic 9500M and Globic 9500S are noted to help prevent cracking and peeling.

Last year, Hempel said Italy-based Grimaldi Group (Grimaldi) had gleaned "significant" reductions in its bunker bill from the application of Hempel's Hempaguard X7 and Hempasil X3 silicone hull coatings on more than 30 vessels since 2011.
