Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) Thursday announced that it has received an "A" rank from CDP in the organisation's survey of measures for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and for mitigation of the risks of climate change.

"It is our honor to receive such an outstanding result this year. We will continue our efforts to satisfy the expectations of our stakeholders and gain trust so that we can again be selected next year as well," said Captain Eiji Kadono, the Senior Managing Executive Officer for K Line's Marine Sector, Technical, and Environmental Affairs Unit.

Of more that than 5,500 companies covered in the survey, K Line says it was the only Japanese shipping company selected for CDP's "Climate A list."

K Line notes that, under its Environmental Vision 2050, it has been implementing fuel efficiency measures on its vessels, investing in eco-friendly newbuilds, expanding its GHG emission data through the Eco-track data collection system, and obtaining verification for the GHG emission data from an independent third party.

"These results have received credit for our counter-measures towards climate change, and the attitude of considering environmental issues as our management goals," said K Line.

"K Line Group, as one of the top shipping companies, will continue searching for businesses where more people around the world can contribute to minimise the environmental risks and pursue higher efficiency in the shipping industry which leads to improving corporate value."

In June, K Line said it was working with Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd Group (KHI) on the development of K-IMS, an integrated vessel operation and performance management system that is intended to support "environmental preservation" and lower the company's bunker bills.
