Claims Continue to Roll In Against Bulker Arrested Over Unpaid OW Bunker Bill
Claims against bulker owned by Turkey's Glamour Maritime have now reached more than $5 million - far exceeding the estimated value of the ship itself, TradeWinds reports.
As Ship & Bunker reported in April, Infinity, a vessel that was arrested in October on outstanding debts from four creditors - including a claim for approximately $93,000 by OW Bunker assignee ING Bank (ING) - was put to public auction following a ruling by an Indian court.
Legal documents show that, since the court ordered the vessel's auction, the Liberian Registry and the vessels Turkish manager Makro Denizcilik have lodged further claims against the ship.
The Liberian Registry has secured an arrest order on the ship for $91,100 linked to unpaid invoices, while Makro Denizcilik secured an arrest order on the ship for outstanding payment of crew wages and other costs.
"The main reason for the vessel’s disability to be delivered to the breakers at the time, which led to the wrongful detention of the vessel by her mortgagees, have been completely dismissed by Indian courts and found wrongful, where our principals reserve their right to counter-claim to recover their losses incurred," G Sesen, a spokesperson for Makro Denizcilik, told TradeWinds.
As Ship & Bunker has reported, NKD Maritime is also said to be seeking to $1 million from the vessel's owner.
