The International Maritime Organization (IMO) today announced that the Grimaldi Group has become the fourteenth company to join the newly formed Global Industry Alliance (GIA).

As Ship & Bunker previously reported, GIA, a public-private partnership initiative, is intended to bring together those from various sectors of the industry to address challenges of decarbonising the shipping sector.

"The GIA members will identify and develop innovative solutions to barriers holding back the uptake and implementation of energy-efficiency technologies and operational measures in shipping," said IMO.

The GIA has been launched under the Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) project, which is aimed at supporting developing countries in implementing energy efficiency measures for shipping.
