ExxonMobil Launches New System Oil for Marine Diesel Engines Operating in Severe Conditions
ExxonMobil Wednesday in an emailed press release announced the launch of a new high-performance system oil, known as Mobilgard 300 C, intended for two-stroke, crosshead marine diesel engines that operate in severe conditions.
The company explains that, compared to convential system oils, Mobilgard 300 C offers "superior engine cleanliness" and protection for longer oil and engine life, as well as reduced operating costs, and has been approved for use in Man Diesel & Turbo and Wärtsilä's latest design engines.
"Mobilgard 300 C is a high-performance system oil that is formulated to optimise the performance and extend the life of slow-speed marine engines," said Iain White, Global Marine Marketing Manager at ExxonMobil.
"It has been developed with a proprietry detergent system to ensure it delivers enchanced engine cleanliness and helps vessel operators increase reliability and reduce operating costs."
Mobilgard 300 C's "unique" detergent system is said to provide improved crankcase cleanliness, helping to protect against piston undercrown deposit build-up, while the oil's anti-wear additive "provides excellent protection for highly-loaded engine parts," including gear drives and bearings.
ExxonMobil says the oil has also demonstrated effective performance even among the presence of moderate amounts of cylinder oil or heavy fuel oil contamination, and notes that Mobilgard 300 C's additive package "ensures high temperature oxidation resistance, making it less susceptible to viscosity thickening and deposits."
In November, ExxonMobil announced that its Mobil SHC Aware Gear Series, its line of high performance Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs), has received approvals from seal manufacturers Kemel Company (Kemel), Blohm & Voss Industries (BVI), and Hwaseung R&A.
