Canada-based maritime battery manufacturer Corvus Energy (Corvus) today highlighted Scandlines' use of Corvus' bunker-saving Energy Storage System (ESS) onboard its newest hybrid vessel, the M/V Copenhagen.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, Copenhagen is slated for service on the Rostock-Gedser route, joining its sister vessel, Berlin, which entered service earlier this year.

"As part of Scandlines' ambitious environmental strategy, the new hybrid ferry will join the world's largest fleet of hybrid ferries, utilising a low emission and fuel saving diesel electric hybrid propulsion system powered by a Corvus Energy ESS," explained Corvus, noting that Copenhagen is the sixth Scandlines hybrid ferry to feature a Corvus ESS.

"Scandlines has gone to great lengths to ensure the M/V Copenhagen is environmentally friendly by utilising technologies that increase fuel savings, significantly reduce emissions and greatly improve on-board energy efficiency."

The vessel also features other energy-saving solutions, including LED lighting throughout and variable-frequency control, with excess energy stored in the Corvus ESS for use when consumption reaches levels higher than generator production.

Earlier this month, Ship & Bunker reported that Halvorsen Power Systems AS (Halvorsen) had selected Corvus' bunker-saving Orca ESS for retrofit on the hybrid cargo vessel MS Hannah Kristina.
