Monjasa Issues Winding Up Order Against Singapore's Searights
Global bunker player Monjasa has issued a winding up order against troubled Singapore supplier Searights Maritime Services Pte Ltd (Searights), Monjasa has confirmed to Ship & Bunker.
"We have sought to reach a solution with our counterpart for a considerable time period but the issue remains unresolved. Therefore, Monjasa has moved to this option," Thorstein Andreasen, Communications Manager, Monjasa, told Ship & Bunker.
"The total outstanding amount is within the range of USD$1-2 million and just as the vast majority of all Monjasa bunkering activities, the supplies in question are fully insured."
With the case ongoing, Andreasen said Monjasa was unable to comment further at this time.
The order is the latest blow to the former top 20 physical supplier, that last year placed 12th on Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA)'s list of bunker suppliers by volume and ranked 14th and 16th in 2014 and 2013 respectively.
A number of other companies have also taken action against Searights, including Moby Dick Supplies Pte. Ltd. (Moby Dick Supplies) who say's it is owed S$15,000 ($11,100), a dispute that resulted in the June arrest of Searights' bunker vessel Giselle.
As Ship & Bunker reported last week, Searights has not had its bunker supplier licence renewed and no longer features on the MPA's list of accredited bunker suppliers.
Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated the amount being claimed by Moby Dick Supplies was $15 million.
