The Gibraltar government is issuing a report to Spain and the United Kingdom over an "incursion" in which a Spanish Guardia Civil ship approached bunkering vessels in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters, the Gibraltar Chronicle reports.

The Spanish ship, Río Bernesga, moved close to bunkering vessels off South Mole Tuesday morning and engaged in "cat and mouse navigation" with the Royal Naval vessel Sabre according to the paper.

"On the day that the Gibraltarian Prime Minister is in Brussels for meetings with the EU about the appalling behaviour of the Spanish, the Spanish authorities are sanctioning this disgraceful behaviour from the Guardia Civil," said Gibraltar MEP candidate Gawain Towler.

As tensions between Spain and the UK flared last year, the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office reported 496 Spanish incursions into the waters of the UK territory in 2013.
