France's Total S.A. (Total) has signed an agreement with Brittany Ferries for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the ferry operator's newbuild LNG-powered vessel, which is slated to be deployed on the Portsmouth-Caen route in 2019, TradeWinds reports.

As Ship & Bunker reported in December, Brittany Ferries signed a letter of intent (LoI) with Germany's Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (FSG) for the construction of the new ship.

Total Marine Fuels' managing director, Olivier Jouny, at the LNG Bunkering Summit in Amsterdam, confirmed the two companies' agreement, noting that the arrangement would likely involve deliveries by truck, providing a solution to the lack of LNG storage facilities at the ferry's ports of call.

In December, Ship & Bunker reported that Total had signalled its intention to become a "key player" within the LNG bunker market.

Jouny also told Ship & Bunker that it will reorganise its marine bunkering operations into a new group known as Total Marine Fuels Global Solutions, a change which becomes effective today.
