Skangas AS (Skangas) Wednesday announced that it has completed the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation at its terminal in Pori, having successfully bunkered the product tanker Ternsund.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, the 30 000 m³ Pori LNG terminal began its operations in July 2016.

"The Skangas terminal in Pori was officially opened three weeks ago. This marks a milestone in our development of the Finnish market. Now we do yet another first when making the first bunkering directly from the terminal," said Tor Morten Osmundsen, CEO at Skangas.

"I’m very proud to be able to offer customers like NEOT (North European Oil Trade Oy) a bunkering service directly at the terminal."

The Pori LNG terminal is said to be the only location in the Gulf of Bothnia to provide ships bunkering directly from a terminal.

"We're very satisfied that we now have the opportunity to bunker LNG in Finland right beside one of our terminals," said Satu Mattila, Chartering Manager at NEOT.

"We will run Ternsund both along the Finnish and the Norwegian coast as well as in the Gothenburg area. It’s advantageous for us that our LNG supplier can offer bunkering at several locations where we trade. This fits well with our trading pattern for the vessels Ternsund and Tern Sea."

As Ship & Bunker has reported, Ternsund has marked other ports' first LNG bunkering operations as well, having been the first vessel to be bunkered with LNG at the Port of Rotterdam in August, and at the Port of Gothenburg in September.
