Intermarine, LLC (Intermarine), transport company for project, breakbulk, and heavylift cargo, has announced that it has ordered six newbuild 13,300 DWT Ecolift F900 vessels to add to its "Fleet of the Future."

The ships, which are said to feature two cranes with a combined lifting capacity of up to 900 metric tonnes (mt), are currently under construction at China State Shipbulding Corporation's (CSSC's) Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. (Hudong) and Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co.,Ltd. (Wenchong).

"The vessels are an efficient upgrade to our existing bridge-forward F-Class ships," said Frank Fischer, Managing Director of Tonnage Procurement at Intermarine.

"They have the advantage of better stability, larger holds, improved cranes and reduced consumption.

"We partnered with CSSC Leasing to provide these vessels with long-term charters due to their financial stability and global reach," Fischer added.

Delivery of the vessels is said to be expected to begin during the summer of 2017 and continue into 2018.

Intermarine says the orders come as part of the company's strategy to broaden its service offerings "to efficiently support clients' cargo and trade requirements."

"The six Ecolift F900s complement the 15 Ecolift F500s already on order," said Al Stanley, President and CEO of Intermarine.

"Given the increased environmental regulations, we focused on developing a Fleet of the Future that meets the current and future standards, while providing a stable level of capacity for our clients – the Ecolift F900 meets those goals."

Last year, Intermarine announced it had ordered the 15 newbuilds to kick off its fleet renewal program.
