SEA\LNG today announced that JAX LNG, Petronet LNG Ltd. (Petronet LNG), and Toyota Tsusho Corporation (Toyota Tsusho) have become the newest members of the cross-industry coalition aimed at promoting liquefied natural gas (LNG) as marine fuel.

"As a coalition, SEA\LNG is expanding, which continues to illustrate the support for and momentum behind the use of LNG as a marine fuel. Toyota Tsusho Corporation, JAX LNG, and Petronet LNG Limited are the latest to join and we welcome their addition to our membership," said Peter Keller, SEA\LNG Chairman and Executive Vice President of Tote, Inc (Tote).

"SEA/LNG members span the entire LNG value chain and recognise that by pooling knowledge and working together, we can help drive the change needed across the marine transportation system."

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, JAX LNG is working on the development of its new LNG liquefaction and storage facility in Jacksonville, Florida, which will support LNG bunkering, specifically, for Tote vessels.

"We’re excited by the expanded use of LNG as a transportation fuel, and look forward to continued growth of both infrastructure and markets globally," said Tim Hermann, Manager of JAX LNG and President of Pivotal LNG Inc. (Pivotal LNG).

Petronet LNG is noted to have established the India’s first LNG receiving and regasification terminal at Dahej, Gujarat, and another terminal at Kochi, Kerala.

"By sharing intelligence with other SEA\LNG members, we know that the potential of LNG as a clean and commercially viable marine fuel can be realised more quickly," said Prabhat Singh, MD & CEO at Petronet LNG.

Yoshihiro Inoue, Executive Officer for Energy Business Unit, Toyota Tsusho, commenting on the company's new SEA\LNG membership, said: "we have been supplying marine fuel oil to the shipping industry worldwide for a long time through our subsidiary company, Toyota Tsusho Petroleum Pte. Ltd.

"As a member of the Toyota Group, we are committed to playing our part in lowering global emissions and are very pleased to collaborate with all members of SEA\LNG to challenge the future marine fuel environment."

Earlier this month, SEA\LNG announced that had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF) aimed at developing a framework for how the two organisations will work together to achieve their common goal of promoting LNG as the fuel of choice for the shipping industry.
