BP Marine says it has begun supplying bunkers at Algeciras, Spain.

“With a strategic location at the ‘Western Gateway’ to the Mediterranean Sea; Algeciras sits at the intersection of shipping routes from Europe, Asia, America and Africa,” the company said.

“It is ideally suited as a major bunkering location.”

The company said it is supplying RMK500, high and low sulfur 380 cSt products (RMG380 and RMG380LS), and DMA at the port, as well as offering a quality assurance programme and various flexible pricing arrangements.

BP Marine has four bunkering anchorages covering 1,500 hectares, with drafts ranging from 21 to 75 meters, 197,000 cubic meters of tankage, and two barges with 8,300 and 4,100 cubic meter capacities.

The barges, which have pumping rates of up to 1,200 metric tonnes per hour, can completely segregate high and low sulphur residual grades plus distillate.

The Port of Algeciras hit a record level of bunker sales in 2012, at 2.9 million tonnes.
