The Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) today announced that the seminar "the Future of Maritime Safety & Security and Clean Shipping in the Baltic Sea Region," which is set to be held on Tuesday in Brussels, will see DMA, along with the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi), focus on maritime safety and clean shipping in the Baltic Sea Region.

DMA and Trafi are also set to discuss maritime development projects together with European Union (EU) policy makers, representatives of the maritime industries, and other stakeholders.

DMA is Policy Area Coordinator for the Policy Area on Clean Shipping (PA Ship) and Policy Area Co-Coordinator with Trafi for the Policy Area on Maritime Safety and Security (PA Safe) of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.

"The Danish Maritime Authority is working hard to ensure that results from EU-funded development projects contribute to enhancing growth and employment in the maritime sector in the Baltic Sea Region," said DMA.

"The intention of the Danish Maritime Authority is to use the output from the seminar to integrate a stronger business focus into PA Safe and PA Ship."

The seminar will include a panel debate in which four Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will present their views on the most pressing priorities for maritime safety and security, and clean shipping in the Baltic Sea Region, as well as their views on how PA Ship and PA Safe should contribute to innovation, growth, and employment in the Baltic Sea Region.

DMA says the seminar will feature presentations on Flagship Projects in order to provide participants an opportunity to give feedback on how to utilise the results to strengthen the maritime sector in the region in the future.

Earlier this month, DMA announced that it was among 29 countries of the Paris MoU and the Tokyo Mou to sign a new Ministerial Declaration on port state control (PSC) covering enforcement of sulfur regulations and the Polar Code.
