The Oil and Pipelines Agency (OPA) depot at Gosport, UK, a marine bulk fuel storage site that acts as a bunkering station for naval and other vessels, is set be upgraded as part of a UK infrastructure development project, local media reports.

The upgrades will see the depot's oil tanks - reported to be more than 100 years old - replaced in order to meet requirements of the navy.

"Once completed, this multi-million pound investment will ensure the Gosport Oil Fuel Depot will be fully equipped to the latest safety standards, ready to meet future requirements, serving an essential role in the era of the new Queen Elizabeth class carriers," said Adrian Jackson, CEO at OPA.

Local councillors say the redevelopment is crucial as the area is set to become home to HMS Queen Elizabeth, a new £3.2 billion ($4.12 billion) aircraft carrier.

Construction is reported to be slated to start in spring of 2018 and completed in 2021 completion date, subject to approvals.
