The Spanish Port of Ferrol is set to develop liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering facilities, according to local media reports.

The move follows news that Aida Cruises' Aida Prima will call at the port on November 9, Galicia Ártabra reports.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, the cruise vessel is fitted with dual-fuel engines that produce onboard power from LNG while docked - previously said to account for some 40 percent of the operating time.

The Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao and local gas firm Reganosa are reported to now be collaborating to develop the infrastructure and protocols to allow LNG refuelling in Ferrol.

The bunkering facility will be developed at a terminal where Reganosa already operates and has small-scale LNG infrastructure in place, according to reports.
