Scandlines today announced that its two new hybrid ferries, M/V Berlin and M/V Copenhagen, went into ordinary service on the Rostock-Gedser route on February 5, 2017.

As Ship & Bunker has reported, the two vessels' feature diesel-electric hybrid propulsion systems, and have been fitted with exhaust gas scrubber systems.

"For the first time in history, two new ferries were especially designed for the route as Scandlines wanted to give the customers a special maritime experience on board as well as increase the effectiveness of the service," said Scandlines.

As Ship & Bunker has reported, Scandlines has previously said it was targeting a fleet of six battery-powered, zero emissions vessels by 2018.
