Port of Antwerp Releases RFP for LNG Bunker Station Operator
The Port of Antwerp has today released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for candidates to operate terminal-to-barge Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering at the port.
By 2016, the Antwerp Port Authority (APA) hopes it will be possible for barges to take delivery of bunkers from a fixed station at the Port of Antwerp.
Currently, truck-to-ship delivered LNG bunkers are available at the port but a fixed station would mean LNG is continuously available to customers.
Candidates will have until January 5, 2015, to put forward their candidacy to operate the LNG bunkering facility under a five year concession.
The port is, in tandem, going through a process to find a suitable company to build the infrastructure necessary for the new services.
APA is one of the partners involved in the initiative known as the Master Plan for Rhine-Main-Danube which is partly funded by the EU and aims to promote LNG as a fuel and as a cargo for European barges.
Rolls-Royce Singapore said last week that the Singapore Government should step in to break a "chicken and egg" situation for LNG bunkers.
