In a maritime industry that is being increasingly dominated by fewer but ever growing global players, niche companies are finding they can thrive by providing the things that mega-companies can not.

UK-based OilChart Offshore (OCO) is one such firm, and Ship & Bunker recently spoke to Managing Director Owen Webber following the supplier's recent celebration of its first anniversary.

"We don't aspire to be the largest operator in the industry, but rather to offer specific, specialist, and targeted solutions to each of our client's needs," Webber explained.

"Our goal is to seek to address the particular needs of each client through innovative solutions."

Launched in Spring last year, OCO describes itself as an innovative and dynamic company which specialises in providing niche physical bunkering supply solutions by sourcing a wide range of wholesale products including marine gas oils (MGO), fuel oils, intermediates, and ultra low sulphur fuel oils (ULSFO).

"OCO prides itself on its hands-on approach and it's very high standard of service, ensuring that each client's needs are met precisely and in a timely manner. At the same time, OCO is aware of the need to maintain a competitive edge in providing this service," said Webber.

"We may be a new company in this sector, but we have have achieved a significant amount of momentum in a very short space of time."

OCO's core area of operation is NW Europe, and has supply licences in ports in North and West France, Eastern UK, and Northern Spain.

The firm says it also meets the needs of more specialist vessels by supplying several offshore locations, and is an FPAL-approved supplier accredited to operate in the North Sea.

OCO is a sister company within the Belgian OilChart International group, and Group CEO Christian Kint says that the successful establishment of OCO is a step further in the group's commitment to servicing its current and prospective client base.

"We have a core team of specialists in a range of fields and combined we now have a strong market presence and offer a solid counterpart as a service provider," he said.
